YouTube Analytics: What Should You be Tracking?

As the largest video-sharing website in the world, YouTube deserves a prominent spot in your marketing plan.

Since being acquired by Google in 2006, the service has grown by leaps and bounds. This growth has allowed many marketing professionals to use YouTube to drive traffic, increase engagement, and build a stronger brand.

Here is the million dollar question: what’s working for your company in regards to its YouTube strategy?

The only way to answer this question is to keep a close eye on your YouTube analytics. Here are several data points you should be tracking:Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 10.31.47 AM

1. Number of Views

Track the number of views across your entire channel, you have a YouTube Channel right?  Drill down deeper, pay close attention to the views associated with each individual video. This gives you a better idea of the type of content your audience is most interested in.

Your primary goal is to experience an overall growth in views, both day over day and week over week.

2. Number of Subscribers

Views are important, but the number of subscribers to your YouTube channel should never be overlooked.Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 10.36.37 AM

This represents customers or prospects who have an interest in staying current with your videos.

Simply put, the more subscribers you have the more people there are who will view your content. Subsequently, your brand receives more exposure.

3. Most Viewed Videos

In a perfect world, every video you post to YouTube would be a viral success. In the real world, this isn’t something you should expect.

Some videos will outperform expectations. Other videos will fall well short of what you were hoping for.Youtube Analytics - Dasheroo

To increase your chance of future success, familiarize yourself with the types of videos that appeal to your audience. You can do this by tracking your “most viewed videos of all time.”

Make sure you cross-market your videos too! You can post them on a blog, social media, to your site and you can include them in your email marketing campaigns. This way you can get your video viewed by a wider audience.

When it comes to YouTube analytics, there is a lot of data that deserves your attention. Start out by focusing on the three key points detailed above.

New Release: Add Notes on Your Dasheroo Dashboards!

We’ve been asked by so many of our users to add simple notes to their dashboards and why not? Notes personalize your dashboard even more.

Dasheroo dashboards: NotesWhy would you use a note?

  • You want to describe in detail what the dashboard is to anyone you collaborate with.
  • They remind you what you’re looking at!
  • You want to make a note to yourself when you’re analyzing your KPIs and perhaps insert a link that has more information.
  • You want to leave a note for someone about a specific metric that went off the roof with a link to where the numbers are coming from.
  • You want to give a comprehensive description of how to use this dashboard. And because the notes SCROLL you can go crazy on the number of words you add in your note.

You can delete notes if they’re time-sensitive, you can add new ones, you can have as many as your plan allows!

There are so many ways in which notes can be incorporated into your dashboards for KPI tracking and explanations. Go ahead and add one!

Startup Lessons Learned: Go for a Drive!

Mini Cooper DashboardsWho drives anymore?! The other day, I hopped in the old Mini Cooper for a meeting in Burlingame and it had been so long that the battery was dead! So I pulled up Uber and off I went, talking on the phone or checking email the entire time.
But just recently, Janine and I had to criss-cross a bit of the Tri-state areas of NY, PA and NJ and really the only way to get it done was renting a car and getting behind the wheel.
So there we were, driving up the Saw Mill Parkway from Manhattan to Dover Plains staring at our dashbords. And you know what – we were actually unplugged and…wait for it…talking! And yes, talking a fair amount about Dasheroo. Instead of nose-down in our Macs. It’s amazing how some F2F brainstorming can benefit your biz.
So in about 1 1/2 hours we didn’t just talk, we decided on:
  • putting a pop-up sign up form on each page of our blog, with a tailored headline based on the blog topic (it’s working great!)
  • a new way to access & visualize custom internal data for our users on their dashboards
  • a potential new product offering & revenue stream

So an average of 30 minutes per idea? I’ll take that any day! Maybe we should just drive around more often and talk about dashboards, but I’ll tell you – Manhattan (or SF for that matter) traffic is not the most conducive, go out to the country!

The Most Important KPI to Track: Revenue

Money, money, money. There is nothing more important to your business than revenue. It doesn’t matter which strategies you implement to boost revenue. What matters is that you are happy with this überly important KPI.

But let’s backtrack for a second. You can’t sit around and hope for the best. If you want to generate more revenue, it’s important to understand the steps you can take to make this happen.

Here is the million dollar question: what steps are you taking to reach your revenue goals?

Below are three KPIs to track, all of which will have an impact on your bottom line:

Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 11.45.15 AM1. Website Traffic KPIs

Of course the more qualified traffic your website gets the greater chance you have of making a sale. When you combine increased traffic with a focus on conversion rate optimization, it won’t be long before you notice a positive impact on revenue. We wrote this article on how we increased our own conversion rates at Dasheroo.

Don’t get so caught up on the total number of visitors that you overlook other traffic metrics such as:

    • New users – You want to focus on “new” people that come to your site and watch if they’re converting to a sale.
    • Returning users – You want to keep this number constantly growing but your New Users should always be greater than returning users!
    • Top keywords – You should always keep an eye on your search engine optimization queries in Google Analytics to see where your position is and what keywords are getting people to your site.
    • Referral sources – If you see that a specific site you’ve been listed on is giving you quality traffic, you should reach out to the site owner to see what more you could be doing together. Obviously something it working.
    • Most visited pages – Make sure you optimize your most visited pages for conversion.

Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 11.44.54 AM2. Conversions KPI

You can generate as much traffic as you want, but you won’t make any money if you aren’t converting visitors into buyers.

This is why it’s essential to fully understand your sales cycle. This can be accomplished through the implementation of a conversion funnel. With this data guiding you, you can tweak your sales process to generate more leads and close more deals.

At Dasheroo we just listed out all of the customer touch points whether it be via email or a person. Then we automated some of the manual work and brought our “days to pay” in a few days and our conversion rates increased!

Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 11.48.29 AM3. Lead Generation KPI

Every purchase, regardless of size, starts with a lead. Some prospects will make an immediate purchase. Others, however, remain in your pipeline for an extended period of time.

Increasing revenue means generating more leads. It also means knowing the origin of your leads, cost of acquisition, and lead to sale ratio. We’ve got a ton of information on Sales KPIs.

By far, revenue is the most important KPI you can track. Just make sure you have a clear idea of which KPIs help you reach your revenue related goals. This is as simple as working backwards!

VIDEO: Setting Up Alerts for Your Dasheroo Dashboards

Need to be alerted when given metrics on your dashboards either hit, go above or below a given number? Our own Alf Brand created a dandy video on how to set up an alert for your dashboards.

What do you need an alert for? You might want to track:

  • When you hit a number that’s high (or low) for your Google Sessions in a day
  • When you reach a given number of Twitter followers in a 24 hour period
  • When you reach your revenue number for the day

And so much more. Check out the short video…

Track Our Startup: Alerts + Zapier + 1 Tight Sales Process

Alerts ReleasedDasheroo dashboards alerts feature

Our new ALERTS feature hit the streets last week, you may notice a new tile at the top of your dashboards. You can also create an alert by clicking the “settings”. This feature is great if you need to know quickly if you’ve reached a specific threshold on one of your metrics.

Zapier Makes You Happier

If you haven’t noticed our Zapier integrations it’s a really big one. Why? Because you can use Dasheroo with literally hundreds of applications using this awesome connector, applications we don’t offer natively. For now you can pump data into a line graph, more data visualizations to come.

Dasheroo dashboards powered by Zapier

Just a few applications you can track in a Dasheroo line graph.

We’re still working on new integrations, namely Hubspot, Sendgrid and MixPanel. More on that as we get closer to releasing.

Sales Process Tightening

Our amazing salesperson Mimi has been doing a great job using our CRM system to identify and qualify inbound leads. We’re literally putting all of the steps she takes into a Google Sheet to see where we can shave off time and make her quicker at what she does. I’d invite everyone to do this now so you’ll benefit from it all year!

I’ve been brushing up an investor deck to go on the road, exciting times for Dasheroo.
